What Type Of Fillings Do You Offer?

We exclusively offer composite fillings at our office. These are made of a blend of dental resin and crushed glass particles, and offer superior cosmetic results while also being durable and strong.

Along with traditional composite fillings for cavities, we also offer BPA-free fillings. Your health and your peace of mind are important to us, and while BPA in fillings has been found to be safe, we are always willing to accommodate patients who wish for a BPA-free alternative to traditional resin fillings.

The Dental Filling Process

It usually takes a single, 30-60 minute appointment at our Aubrey dental office to place a filling, and it’s usually possible to treat multiple teeth at once, if necessary.

Prep And Numbing

To begin your procedure, Dr. Mustafa will clean your mouth, numb the treatment area, and then trim away any damaged enamel from your tooth using a dental drill.

Building the Filling

Once the cavity has been trimmed and prepared, Dr. Mustafa will apply the filling material directly to the hole in your tooth. She will use special tools to adjust and shape it, and then harden it using UV light. Layer-by-layer, she will rebuild the structure of your tooth.

Final Trim and Check

After the overall shape of the filling has been built, Dr. Mustafa will trim it and adjust it, checking your bite with special strips of paper to ensure the filling fits properly. Once everything looks good, you’re done! You’ll be sent home to enjoy your newly-restored tooth.

How Long Do Dental Fillings Last?

Generally speaking, composite dental fillings tend to last between 5-8 years, though it’s possible to keep them intact for even longer, depending on how well you care for your teeth. There are a few things you can do to keep your fillings in great shape.

First, make sure you keep brushing twice a day and flossing once a day. Good at-home oral hygiene helps you keep your teeth healthy, prevents cavities, and keeps your teeth healthy. You also should see Dr. Mustafa for six-month dental appointments.

In addition to this, you should watch what you eat. Eat a low-sugar diet, avoid really sticky and gummy foods like taffy, caramel, and other foods that may stick to your fillings. These can contribute to future decay, or even loosen your filling over time.

You also should address teeth grinding (bruxism) if present. Grinding your teeth regularly can damage your natural teeth and put stress on your composite filling, which may result in premature filling damage.
